The Basics

Undoing Ruin is at tabletop role-playing game for 4-6 players that can be played as standalone sessions or as a longer campaign. It is a game about war, hope, identity, comradery, and fighting to break free of oppressive systems and build something better. Players take on the role of Androids created to fight against hostile machines and save humanity, while they grow as people and have to decide what their role in the world after the conflict ends will be.

Character Creation

Undoing Ruin features a robust character creation system designed for in-depth customization and flexibility over the course of play. Some features of the character creation system are:

  • Three core Android Operating Systems that serve as the backbone of characters.
  • Extensive lists of weaponry, general equipment, body modifications, software, and companion Drones that flesh out an Android's abilities.
  • Mechanics for swapping out core character attributes and equipment on a session by session or even mid-session basis.

System Features

The system for Undoing Ruin is stand-alone and has the following features:

  • One-roll engine and low modifiers for simplicity and ease of play.
  • Tactical Combat that emphasizes "rule of cool" over large numbers.
  • Narrative mechanics that allow players to have their "big damn hero" moments and for the game runner to add new twists to sessions.
  • Optional resource gathering and processing mechanics that allow players to build up regions of the game world and reap the benefits.

Extensive NPC Index

In addition to the core mechanics and character creation options, the core rulebook for Undoing Ruin includes over 80 pre-built NPCs including hostile machines, human survivalists, and vehicles, as well as instructions for creating custom NPCs.

The Story So Far

Undoing Ruin is a game set in our world in the far future. After a series of catastrophic wars and natural disasters brought about by climate change occurred, accompanies by severe societal unrest and endemic government and corporate corruption, a war between humanity and rogue artificial intelligences that had been created to help run the future society erupted leading to the collapse of human civilization. While mankind survived the initial conflict, and continues to fight for survival in a world dominated by machines, it exists in the form of small communities that banded together during the fall and work with one another in order to gather resources and sustain themselves.

This is not their story.

The Reclamation Initiative

Founded by rogue megacorporation scientists in the early years of the Fall, the Reclamation Initiative was humanity's final attempt to stop the collapse of civilization and launch a meaningful resistance against its would-be-destroyers. Fighting fire with fire, it created the first Androids, machines capable of learning and thinking independently in the field, and deployed them in order to save as many lives as possible. While the early intervention attempts did not stop the wide scale collapse that happened in the fall, they did buy enough time for the Initiative to become self sufficient and save countless lives. In the current era, the Initiative is entirely organized and managed by its Android creations as well as other AI developed to oversee it, and it works tirelessly to preserve humanity and fight against those who would attempt to enslave it and destroy it.

Players in Undoing Ruin take on the roles of the Initiative's Android soldiers, either starting from the moment of their activation or further on in their careers.

A World Transformed

It has been 50 years since the fall. In that time, the world has become nearly unrecognizable from what it once was. While the crumbling man-made monuments of old and decaying cities still litter the landscape, much of the world has been overrun by rampant machine life forms, some of which oppose the Initiative's objectives while others have come to aid them in uneasy alliances.
